Special guest Judy Collins will join the Cathedral Choir and Orchestra for this evening of seasonal masterpieces, among them Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Mendelssohn’s Verleigh uns Frieden (Grant us Peace) and Bruckner’s motets. Renowned soloists Jamet Pittman, soprano; Kirsten Sollek, contralto; Steven Fox, tenor; and Peter Stewart, baritone, will also perform. The celebration of music, dance and prayer will be illuminated by the light of candles held by thousands of audience members. NBC Correspondent Harry Smith will host the night’s event. The annual New Year’s Eve Concert for Peace was founded by Leonard Bernstein in 1984 and has become one of the Cathedral’s most celebrated events. Reserved seats are $75. General Admission seats are free, and will be available on a first-come, first- served basis the night of the concert.
