With the Long Island Sound just steps away, Sands Point fresh water pond is home to many critters that could not live in the salty water that “moves” with the tides at the beach. At this peaceful fresh water pond, a quiet explorer can see turtles and frogs. Lots of surprises like diving beetles, tadpoles, and dragonfly nymphs await us in the shallow water and muddy bottom. To get the best look, bring a clean, plastic take-out container and its flat cover (clear and white are best) to create your own observation tray. Recommended: old sneakers or footwear that can get muddy and wet. Pre-registration is recommended – please email your name and number of children participants to firstname.lastname@example.org.
