Add to Calendar 24-05-2014 24-05-2014 15 Groundbreakers: Great American Gardens and the Women Who Designed Them, with Eavan Boland Between 1900 and 1930, landscape design achieved a new prominence in American life. The NYBG's spring exhibit pays homage to the contributions of American women who emerged as influential professionals in the burgeoning fields of landscape architecture and design, garden photography, and garden writing in the early 20th century. A complimentary Poetry Walk will display poems of Edna St. Vincent Millay, one of the foremost poets of the time, selected by Eavan Boland with particular emphasis on Millay's poems that reference plants, gardening, and the natural world. Boland will read Millay's work at this special seasonal event. Eavan Boland is the author of many books, including "New Collected Poems" (W.W. Norton & Co., 2008), "Domestic Violence," (2007), "Against Love Poems" (2001), "The Lost Land" (1998), "An Origin Like Water: Collected Poems 1967-1987" (1996), "In a Time of Violence" (1994), and "Outside History: Selected Poems 1980-1990" (1990). She has received a Lannan Foundation Award in Poetry and an American Ireland Fund Literary Award, and directs the creative writing program at Stanford University. Co-sponsored by the Poetry Society of America and the New York Botanical Garden. Admission is free with All Garden Pass admission to the Botanical Garden.
