Description: Thanks to a partnership with MillionTreesNYC, Wave Hill welcomes families, individuals, and community groups to pick up a free tree for planting on private property within the five boroughs of New York City.
Staff horticulturists will be on hand to help with selection, and simple tree planting and care instructions will be available. At home, all you'll need is a spade, a place to plant, and access to water. Trees will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis for this Arbor Weekend event.
Arbor Day extends into a weekend celebration at Wave Hill April 25, 26, and 27 with a tree giveaway, tree walks and talks, a bike tour of trees in the Bronx, a tree-themed Family Art Project, and a junior arborist station sponsored by Almstead Tree, Shrub & Lawn Care.
Venue Description: See natural beauty at its finest at Wave Hill, the 28-acre public garden and cultural center in the Bronx. Overlooking the Hudson River and Palisades, Wave Hill's true view lies in the park's magnificent gardens and landscapes. Horticulture and the arts programs for children, teenagers, and teachers are hosted by Wave Hill. Its grounds serve as living laboratories for science exploration. A memorable and scenic venue location, the Wave Hill House, built in 1843, is available for meetings, conferences, celebrations, and photo shoots. Wave Hill House was home to many celebrated icons, including Theodore Roosevelt and Mark Twain.
On weekends from 10am-1pm, the whole family can enjoy with a naturally creative Family Art Project. Wave Hill's visual arts program presents artworks in the galleries and on the grounds that engage the public in a dialogue with nature, culture, and site.
