A fun, earth-friendly afternoon where you can roll up your sleeves and make a difference! Build a rain barrel, learn about home composting, work on the trails, help prepare the garden beds for spring planting, and, in recognition of Arbor Day, assist in planting a tree that will provide wildlife habitat, shade, and beauty at the GNC for generations to come.
Schedule: 11am: Rain Barrel Workshop - Groundwork Hudson Valley, Coca Cola, and the GNC are teaming up to teach you how to re-purpose a Coca Cola syrup canister to capture fresh rainwater for use on your own property. Rain barrels can be purchased for $40 and taken home.*
12-3pm: Trail Sweeping, Garden Sprucing - Help give the GNC trails and property a good spring spruce-up! Bring work gloves and clothes for gardening.
1pm: Home Composting Class - Learn how to use kitchen scraps along with with yard waste to make valuable compost for your garden. Earth Machine backyard composters will be available for purchase for $75, and can also be ordered and picked up in advance.*
2pm: "This Book Was A Tree" - Get a signed copy of this new release and enjoy a planting activity from the book led by local author Marcie Chambers Cuff. Books will be available for purchase and signing.*
3pm: Tree Planting - Dig in and help give a tree a good start on the GNC property!
