Venue Description: In 1997, a group of volunteers in the East End of Long Island, including artists, educators, and carpenters, joined together in an effort to create a pilot project that would measure their community's desire to have a children's museum. During its 14-week showing at the Guild Hall Museum in East Hampton, the project attracted an astounding 5,000 visitors and supporters of the children's museum movement. The museum has since developed into a beloved educational destination for children and parents alike. The Children's Museum of the East End, dubbed CMEE (pronounced "see me"), offers interactive learning opportunities that cultivate kids' imaginations and establish their interest in self-guided learning. The 10,000-square-foot museum houses a permanent interactive exhibit that focuses on life in the East End community. Children can explore the Musical Forest, take a stroll down CMEE's Main Street, and select produce from the East End Farm Stand. The museum also regularly hosts temporary exhibits. CMEE offers birthday and theme parties and is available for private parties. Special events include outdoor music and theater performances in the Arlene and Alan Alda Amphiteater.
