Lyricist Johnny Mercer (1909-1976) worked with some of America's greatest composers in Hollywood and on Broadway, including Harold Arlen, Jerome Kern, Duke Ellington, and Henry Mancini. He wrote songs such as "Hooray for Hollywood" and "Moon River" as well as the Broadway shows St. Louis Woman and Li'l Abner. Programs for children include the Broadway Playhouse series, which introduces classic Broadway musicals to a new generation of musical theater fans, and Musical Adventures with the Poppy Seed Players -- musical plays for families about the great Jewish heritage. Other signature series include Broadway Close Up, Tuesday Matinees, the Ecstatic Music Festival, the New York Guitar Festival, New York Festival of Song and New Sounds Live hosted by WNYC's John Schaefer.
