Using a multi-disciplinary thematic curriculum aligned with the core standards the Magnet School of the Arts integrates the arts into all aspects of learning. The thematic approach to learning across all grade levels empowers the students to achieve their full potential. Studying the arts focuses the mind. Students learn discipline, cooperative play, and gain understanding of the role of art in a civil society. Students are encouraged to find the intellectual and emotional connection to the aesthetic experience of creating art. They learn through the process of creating visual art and performance. Magnet School of the Arts, PS 171Q offers high quality, comprehensive instruction in art, music, movement/dance, which includes trips to museums, theaters, and galleries as well as artists-in-residence programs for all grades. Enjoy a tour of the school and meet the families of PS 171 at the PJ’s and a Book Party. The NYC Department of Education, Magnet Schools are schools of choice offering distinct, innovative, thematic learning opportunities for your child. Each federally funded magnet school offers specialized curriculum aligned to the school theme with student activities designed to promote academic excellence. The non-testing application is available for all District 30 students grades Kindergarten through 8.
