The 2013 series concludes with Stephen Schwartz, one of only two composer/lyricists to have three shows run longer than 1,500 performances on Broadway: "Wicked," "Godspell," and "Pippin." Schwartz was also involved in Disney's classics Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame and wrote the score for Dreamworks’ Prince of Egypt. This concert will “Defy Gravity” and has lots of “Magic to Do” as we celebrate one of Broadway’s greatest living composers/lyricists. Venue Description: Merkin Concert Hall's innovative programming and intimate setting have earned it a reputation as one of New York City's finest concert venues. In addition to cutting-edge new music, Merkin Concert Hall presents some of the best new talents in the classical world, celebrations of musical theater with Broadway's top professionals, and lively musical reviews for children and families. Programs for children include the Broadway Playhouse series, which introduces classic Broadway musicals to a new generation of musical theater fans, and Musical Adventures with the Poppy Seed Players -- musical plays for families about the great Jewish heritage. Other signature series include Broadway Close Up, Tuesday Matinees, the Ecstatic Music Festival, the New York Guitar Festival, New York Festival of Song and New Sounds Live hosted by WNYC's John Schaefer.
