Venue Description: Founded in 1971, the Bronx Museum of the Arts features a collection of 20th-century and contemporary art. The Bronx Museum of the Arts has a permanent collection of 20th- and 21st-century works by artists of African-, Asian-, and Latin-American ancestry. The museum strives to reach the public by offering educational programs for children and families.
The education department offers many programs for children of all ages. The Family Affair afternoon program hosts activities performances, and guided tours. Through Teen Council, groups of high-school students work with instructors in a media lab on creating projects like video podcasts. For schools and community groups, the Group Visits program offers analytical and interactivities about contemporary art. Also, art classes are offered each fall and spring, and there are workshops for educators focusing on how to read art and bring others into conversation about the work.
