Add to Calendar 01-03-2014 01-03-2014 15 ARC Family Resource Day An opportunity to attend presentations of interest, network with other families, view the gallery265 art exhibition, and browse the vendor fair of information and services available to you and your family. This annual FREE event will take place at Arc of Westchester's Gleeson-Israel Gateway Center, 265 Saw Mill River Road, Hawthorne, NY 10532. Complimentary continental breakfast will be served and a pizza lunch will be available for purchase. Six seminars will be offered that will address many issues of interest and importance to families. Experts in the field from the county and state will present these seminars. SEMINAR #1: Guardianship Changes & Solutions. 10-10:45am. Learn about the proposed changes in 17A guardianship and possible solutions currently under review by the Governor's Office, the New York State Legislature and advocates. Experts in the field from NYSARC and Arc of Westchester will head up the panel discussion. Presenters: Erica Berman, Assistant Executive Director for Guardianship Services at NYSARC Inc.; Lawrence Faulkner, Esq., General Counsel at Arc Westchester; Elaine Schroeder, Guardianship Chairperson, Arc of Westchester. SEMINAR #2: Graduation Options: New Credentials Available. 10-10:45am. Overview of new High School Graduation requirements will be shared by representatives of Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES. Presenter: Kitt Casey, Transition Coordinator from the Technical Assistance and Continuing Education (TACE) Center. SEMINAR #3: OPWDD's Front Door Process. 11-11:45am. Front Door is a new process for authorizing NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) services. This important seminar will guide you with what has changed and what you need to know. Presenter: Ira Rothenstein, Hudson Valley DDSO. SEMINAR #4: Preschool: The First Steps. 11-11:45am. Learn about community resources for families of preschool children on the autism spectrum including recreation, support groups, technology, medical, and in home behavior support. Presenters: Debra Cohen, Social Worker, and Ann-Marie Sabrsula, Psychologist, The Children's School for Early Development. SEMINAR #5: Ready for Employment? Learn about Acces-VR. 12:30-1:15pm. Learn about the individualized person center planning approach by Acces-VR and Arc through intensive services such as: job development, skill training, job orientation, assessments, etc. in order to maximize the abilities to reach career goals. Presenter: Linda Schramm, Senior Vocational Rehab Counselor, Acces-VR. SEMINAR #6: Self-Advocacy - Speaking Up For Yourself! 12:30-1:15pm. An informative session led by self-advocates from the Self-Advocacy Association of NYS (SANYS). Learn about the importance of letting people know what you want and asking for the help that you might need to get those things. Make sure your voice is heard! Childcare will be available all day, and additional sessions will be ongoing all day.
