Venue Description: The Japan Society produces programming on Japan for an English-speaking audience. Located near the United Nations on 47th Street and First Avenue, it is an internationally recognized nonprofit that presents more than 100 events annually, including three exhibitions, more than 30 performances, film screenings, conferences, lectures, workshops, and language labs. Built on land donated by John D. Rockefeller, the landmark building houses a 262-seat theater, art gallery, language center, library, and conference facilities, as well as a high-end boutique that opened on the second floor in 2006. Visitors can learn about a broad range of topics, such as art, business, dance, design, cinema, policy, popular culture, social issues, and theater. The society's mission is "to bring the people of the United States and Japan closer together in appreciation and understanding of each other."
