August Events at Teatown Lake Reservation

Teatown Lake Reservation in Ossining, NY, is home to a host of natural wonders and wildlife. Learn more about the activities offered there in August for kids and families.

On 834 acres, Teatown Lake Reservation is home to the 33-acre Teatown Lake, the 50-acre Shadow Lake, Cliffdale Farm, Wildflower Island, streams, a scenic gorge, hardwood swamps, mixed forests, meadows, hemlock forests, and laurel groves. Teatown’s mission is to not only conserve the open space but to educate and involve the community in order to sustain the diverse wildlife, plants, and habitats. The reservation is devoted to preserving biodiversity, teaching ecology, and promoting nature-friendly living. This month, Teatown has many opportunities for families to explore the beautiful landscape and learn about the natural world and its inhabitants.

   Explore Cliffdale Farm and its many insects during Field Study. Join a naturalist to catch, identify, and classify insects and other invertebrates. All ages. August 7 at 1pm.

   Listen to a nature-friendly story and make a craft, play a game, or visit with one of Teatown’s animal ambassadors at Story Sundays: Whose Garden Is It? Appropriate for  children ages 4-7, accompanied by an adult. August 8 at 11am.

   Find out what equipment a bird needs to be a raptor and meet a few of the diurnal raptors during the interactive program Build a Raptor. All ages. August 21 at 1pm.

   Walk down to the lake and learn the basics of fish identification, and make a field guide to take home during Go Fish. Appropriate for children ages 8-10. Space is limited. August 28 at 1pm.

   Go knee deep in the pond at Mud-Luscious and look for the many invertebrates that hide and find food there. All ages. August 29 at 11am.
