Huge Anatomical Heart Statue Arrives in NYC in Support of Boys & Girls Club

Bodies The Exhibition in New York awarded 500 tickets to Madison Square Boys and Girls Club, and to commemorate the event, the South Street Seaport, where the exhibit is located, welcomed a huge anatomical heart statue delivered by a New York Water Taxi.

On Aug. 15, chief medical director Dr. Roy Glover of “Bodies The Exhibition” spoke to 120 children of the Madison Square Boys and Girls Club about the importance of making healthy food choices and exercising regularly, explaining how it all affects the heart, and awarded them with 500 tickets to the South Street Seaport exhibit. As part of the event, a huge anatomical heart was delivered to the South Street Seaport’s Pier 17 with the help of a team of lab-coated museum doctors and a New York Water Taxi where it will stand through the end of the month.

Touring the exhibit, which provides an up-close look inside the skeletal, muscular, respiratory, and ciruclatory systems through displays of human cadavers, with Dr. Glover, kids were able to ask questions, including “If a child has 305 bones and an adult has 206, where do the extra bones go?” (Answer: The bones fuse together as your body grows!) The exhibit also illustrates the damages caused to organs by drinking, smoking, over-eating, consuming excessive sugars from soda, and the lack of exercise.

Towering at 13 feet long, 7 feet wide, and 12 feet high, the statue’s individual parts are identified by numbers so visitors can learn about the organ. Below are a few factoids you can learn about organs, including the heart, while at the exhibit.
