Boot Camp for New Dads Launches in NYC

New Dads Boot Camp offers workshops for expectant fathers, facilitating frank discussions on fatherhood and teaching dads-to-be how to care for their kids with guidance from veteran dads.

New dad? Scared to death? Pack up that attitude (and your new baby) and head out to boot camp. NYC Dads Group, a community of dads that believe fathers can be just as nurturing (or distant), capable (or inept), and confident (or scared) as mothers, has partnered with Tribeca Parenting to launch its first set of New Dad Boot Camps in the city. new dad boot camps in nyc

These three-hour workshops, two of which will take place in Manhattan this month, are an opportunity for expectant and new dads to connect with veteran dads (and their babies) for a frank discussion on the experience of becoming a father.

Participants will talk about the opportunities and rewards of personally caring for their children as dads demonstrate holding, burping, changing, swaddling, and comforting crying babies. They’ll also discuss topics like how to develop a bond with a new baby, be supportive of baby’s mom, navigate work as a new parent, develop a parenting partnership, create a baby-safe environment, and manage relatives.

“Our first three workshops will hopefully lead into an ongoing offering,” says Lance Somerfeld, co-creator of NYC Dads Group. “Overall, it’s just nice to provide something for all of those expecting and newly minted dads-wish they had a class like this three years ago when we had our son.”

New Dad Boot Camps will be held at Tribeca Parenting locations on the Upper East Side (November 5, 10am-1pm) and in Tribeca (November 12, 10am-1pm). For more information or to register, visit nycdadsgroup.com or tribecaparenting.com.
