Brooklyn Public Library Asks Patrons to ‘Support Our Shelves’

Want to help Brooklyn Public Library upgrade its materials? Find out how to contribute to the library’s Support Our Shelves fundraising campaign.

Support Our ShelvesHow often do you notice the condition of library books? Is that elaborately visual book about ancient Egyptians that your child borrowed for a long-term project falling apart at the seams? Are you waiting months to sign out the latest David Sedaris book? Brooklyn Public Library, like nearly all public cultural institutions of late, isn’t swimming in money, and money is what it needs to purchase new books and materials such as DVDs and eBooks.

Thus, BPL recently announced a fundraising drive with a goal of $500,000. The campaign, titled Support Our Shelves, runs through June 30, and donations can be made directly at local libraries, by calling 718-230-2738, online at https://bpl.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/donate, and at select branches through the ABC kiosks (the same spots where you can pay overdue book fees).

Says the library’s CEO Linda Johnson: “Every donation we receive from our patrons will help ensure that BPL’s collection remains as vibrant and diverse as the borough that we serve.”
