HELP AT A DIFFICULT TIME

No event is more devastating than the loss of a baby before or shortly after birth. Now the March of Dimes is offering bereavement materials to help families cope. Prepared "with the utmost care and respect for the grieving parents and their families," the materials, says March of Dimes president Jennifer L. Howse, "reflect a comprehensive perspective, recognizing that one's body, mind and spirit all must be supported during this difficult time. "Families go through periods of terrible grief, and a whole range of related emotions," Howse says. "To address this sensitive area, the March of Dimes assembled an expert advisory panel to help develop our approach. The materials were developed with experience, sensitivity and love." Each packet contains a booklet to help cope with, and explain, the emotional issues associated with loss, along with information for friends and grandparents about how to assist. There's also an insert called "When You're Ready to Try Again" (to address concerns of parents thinking about another pregnancy), a resource directory, and a set of five fact sheets on miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, neonatal death and birth defects. There's also a 'memory envelope' to allow parents to save personal information, such as a photograph or footprint of their child. This information is available FREE online from the March of Dimes at www.marchofdimes.com/loss.
