UPDATED MAY 2017: Memorial Day is Monday, May 29, but the celebrations will occur all weekend! Remember those who have served our country and teach your kids about the importance of veterans with these Memorial Day activities in Westchester and Rockland counties. Find out where to celebrate Memorial Day in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, and on Long Island.
 

Where to Celebrate Memorial Day in Westchester County

FREE Commemoration of Memorial Day
WHEN: Monday, May 29, 11am-4pm
WHERE: St. Paul's Church N.H.S., 897 S. Columbus Ave., Mount Vernon 
AGES: All
WHAT: There will be a brief ceremony at 11am, and walking tours throughout the day, recalling the lives and stories of soldiers interred in the historic cemetery, with an emphasis on World War I veterans. The event also features living history military re-enactors and a performance, and sing-along, of songs that soldiers would have sung and heard from the Revolutionary War through the 20th century. Free admission and parking; light refreshments.

Wolves of North America on Memorial Day
WHEN: Monday, May 29, 11am-12:30pm
WHERE: Wolf Conservation Center, 7 Buck Run St., South Salem 
AGES: All 
WHAT Learn about the mythology, biology and ecology of wolf families and discover why it’s a special time for packs in North America. Whether the wolves are living on the Arctic tundra or the high desert of the southwest, wolf families are out searching for prey as they prepare for the birth of pups! Guests will visit Ambassador Wolves Atka, Alawa, Nikai and Zephyr as well as the WCC’s critically endangered red wolves and Mexican gray wolves too. Pre-registration is required.

FREE 41th Annual Memorial Day Fair & Races 
WHEN: Monday, May 29, 10am-3pm
WHERE: South Salem Presbyterian Church, 111 Spring St., South Salem 
AGES: All 
WHAT: Kick off your Memorial Day celebration with a healthy run!  Be sure to bring along your entire family – events are offered for all ages! From a 10K that starts at 8:00AM May, 29th 2017 that takes on some of the most challenging hills in South Salem to the 50 yard plus dashes for our Pee Wee toddlers. Race registration begins at 7am at Lewisboro Library.

Where to Celebrate Memorial Day in Rockland County

Memorial Day Parade
WHEN: Monday, May 29, 11am
WHERE: Village of Nyack, Municipal Parking Lot, Main Street, Nyack
AGES: All
WHAT: Line up is at 10am. Kicks off at 11am. Watch the parade pass by from the Municipal Parking lot down Broadway ending at Memorial Park.

Memorial Day Services
WHEN: Monday, May 29, 9-11am
WHERE: Haverstraw Village, Town of Haverstraw Hall, 1 Rosman Road, Garnverville
AGES: All
WHAT: Services and ceremonies are held around Haverstraw and Garnerville throughout the morning starting at Town of Haverstraw Hall followed by Calico Hill on Railroad Ave, Civil War on Hudson Avenue, World War II on Main Street ending with WW1 monument by Mt. Repose Cemetery on 9W at 11am.

Memorial Day Parade
WHEN: Monday, May 29, 11am
WHERE: Village of Suffern, Lafayette Avenue to the Soldiers Monument, Suffern  
AGES: All
WHAT: Join the Village of Suffern and the Fromm Maxwell Debaun American Legion for the Annual Memorial Day Parade. The parade kicks off from Lot A, located at the intersection of Orange and Lafayette Avenues, and continues on Lafayette Avenue to the Soldiers Monument at Washington Avenue. Ceremony at the Soldiers Monument following the parade.

WHAT: Strike up the band! Follow this annual parade down Main Street from Collyer Ave to the Courthouse.

West Nyack Memorial Day Parade

WHERE: Town of Clarkstown, Strawtown Road, West Nyack

WHAT: Presented by the Nanuet-West Nyack Rotary, enjoy this celebration of remembrance from Strawtown Road to West Nyack Hamlet Green.

Memorial Day Parade
WHEN: Monday, May 29, parade starts at 10:15am
WHERE: Parade leaves from 93 N. Middletown Road, Pearl River and ends in Braunsdorf Park
AGES: All
WHAT: Watch a Memorial Day Parade hosted by the John H. Secor American Legion Post 329 of Pearl River. Parade assembles at Key Bank parking lot at 10am and is scheduled for a 10:15am start with ceremonies following in Braunsdorf Park.
