Music Beans in Lower Manhattan offers new music classes for kids.

Music Beans is now offering new classes for New York’s tiniest music maestros. My Little Body and Fingers is a program geared towards children ages 5 and younger to acclimate them to the world of piano playing. Instructors let kids try out the keys of smaller pianos and immerse themselves in the interactive process of music making, rather than relying on strict classical instruction.

At Music Beans, students are expected to get off the piano bench and get involved with “the feeling and movement of music that kids experience first, [which] then transforms into playing the instrument,” says Yu-Chen (Mimi) Lin, founder and creative director of the Music Beans program.

The My Little Body and Fingers class puts a strong focus on diverse music and culture, giving music education a worldly feel. Instructors at Music Beans hail from all over the world, bringing different styles, world histories, and musical styles to each class. Lin says Music Beans classes give students an “open mind and cultural understanding through music in a city as diverse as New York.”
