Celebrate Valentine’s Day with your little sweetie at these local events:

Valentine’s Day Party: Children will make heart-shaped pizza, heart-shaped meatballs and spaghetti, eat-your-heart-out cookies, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and a passion fruit smoothie. February 11, 4:30-6:30pm. $49. What’s Cooking?, 30 East Main Street, Oyster Bay. 516-922-2665.

Animals in Love: Bring your little ones to learn how animals around the world show their love for each other. Includes an indoor live animal presentation followed by a trail walk to find animals in love and observe their habitats. February 12 at 1pm. All ages. $3. Lilchefs.com Special Events: Valentine’s Sweetheart Social: Children will design their own souvenir dessert plate, create chocolate-dipped candies, and decorate brownie heart melt-aways. They’ll also personalize a chef hat and apron and enjoy holiday refreshments. Afterward, all chefs will pose for a commemorative photo of their finished masterpiece and receive a personalized certificate of accomplishment. Valentine’s Day Jump-N-Craft: Kids will get up to an hour of jumping and playing followed by up to an hour in the party room, where they can participate in a Valentine’s Day arts and crafts project. A Bari Fun Concert

Hit children’s tune-maker Bari Koral will have the kids hopping, popping, and all out jamming when she brings her act to the 5th Annual ECC “Family Fun Day” Fundraiser. With catchy hits such as “Clap It!” and “Hey Ducky,” the whole family will be singing along. In addition to the concert, the event offers raffle prizes, shopping, and a silent auction with the opportunity to score a Disney vacation. Harlem Globetrotters 2011 world tour; 4 points

 

 

Court Jesters

The Harlem Globetrotters‘ 2011 World Tour stops at the Nassau Coliseum for two shows, February 20 at 1pm and 6pm. The legendary Globetrotters will celebrate their 85th Anniversary season of wholesome family entertainment with this world tour. $21.50 and up. A New Show for Gustafer Yellowgold

See Groovy Gustafer Yellowgold and his creator Morgan Taylor in the world premiere engagement of Gustafer Yellowgold’s Infinity Sock, the first Gustafer Yellowgold show to have a storyline. This multimedia “musical moving storybook,” conceived by Taylor, an illustrator, songwriter, and musician, follows Yellowgold as he embarks upon a hilarious, mind-bending musical journey in search of the toe-end of the longest sock in the universe. Marionetas de la Esquina

The fun never ends under the big top with the delightful puppets of Marionetas de la Esquina. Catchy music, non-stop laughter, and a kaleidoscope of color will transport you and your family to an old-fashioned, one-of-a-kind circus by Mexico City’s award-winning puppet company. With more than 11,000 performances to its credit, the 36-year-old company has mastered the art of entertainment. Who knows what Pepolon, Gervasio, Pluma, or the other puppets will be up to when the circus opens. Bilingual performances February 23- 24 at 1pm and 3pm. Pirates of Treasure Island

 

Ahoy, Matey!

Ride the high seas to adventure when the Arena Players Children’s Theatre presents The Pirates of Treasure Island. Travel along with and become part of Long John Silver’s pirates and Captain Smollet’s crew as they battle storms, jungles, ghosts, and each other for the hidden mystery on Treasure Island. $10.
