Lose Big to Win Big
Have you ever wanted to lose weight like the contestants on The Biggest Loser, but you’re not exactly keen about stepping on the scale in front of millions of television viewers? This month, CATZ Sport Performance Center in Levittown is offering a similar competition – the CATZ Adult Fitness Challenge – that allows members to participate in more comfortable surroundings.
During the 12-week program, members 16 years of age or older can compete against themselves and other participants, and the more weight/inches/body fat they lost, the more points they earn towards prizes. Three mandatory fitness tests to assess progress throughout the course of the program must be completed in order to gauge speed, strength, and endurance. Contestants will “weigh in” every week with CATZ’s nutrition counselor; the better the results, the more points are accumulated.
“This is our third time doing this challenge in January,” marketing manager Craig Mauro says. “People seem to respond really well after the holidays are over and can get back on a normal schedule.” CATZ fitness is based on tailored programs to get members the results they want with a motivating, fun, and efficient workout, and each routine can be customized to individual fitness levels.
Those who sign up for the challenge will receive one week of nutrition sessions and a challenge t-shirt.

The Little Gym Lands in Levittown
On January 31, children ages 4 months to 12 years will have a new place to call their own, where physical activity and motor-skill development go hand in hand. The Little Gym of Levittown will open its doors and offer a gymnastics-based noncompetitive curriculum, with classes geared to individual age and skill levels to ensure every child progresses at their own pace. Parent/child, preschool/kindergarten, and grade school gymnastics classes are open during The Little Gym’s first semester, with karate, dance and other sports skills lessons likely to follow.
Owner and gym director, Tina Lopano, had been taking her own young sons to The Little Gym in Merrick for a while when she decided to open the Levittown branch. “As a parent participant, I was able to witness first hand the outstanding curriculum and many cognitive, physical and social benefits of The Little Gym,” she says.

From Drs. Christine and Emilian Mihaila come The Brain Specialists, a new outlet in Great Neck for patients 6 years old through adulthood seeking neuropsychological and psychological assistance. Doctors at The Brain Specialists focus on individual neuropsychological assessments and offer treatments such as psychotherapy, cognitive rehabilitation and memory groups.
