Professional Athletes To Help Families Devastated by Hurricane Sandy

From the NBA to MLB, professional athletes, many of whom are dads, have teamed up with diapers.com to create “Register to Rebuild,” an effort to help families affected by Hurricane Sandy.

A coalition of professional athletes, many of whom are dads, have teamed up with diapers.com to create “Register to Rebuild,” an effort to help families affected by Hurricane Sandy.

diapers.comEach athlete, from Major League Baseball player Joba Chamberlain to National Basketball Association players Tyson Chandler and Jason Kidd, has created his own registry of essential items including diapers, wipes, baby food, clothing, water, soap, etc. that people can purchase to go back to specific families or areas in need, designated by the player (see specifics below). Many of the families receiving these items lost their homes, are displaced and working to rebuild.

While many people will be shopping online for the holidays, it’s easy to shop at diapers.com and help those in need.  Anyone who wants to help the athletes fulfill their registries can visit diapers.com/registertorebuild and select items to purchase, to be provided to the designated families.

NBA Star Tyson Chandler: Chandler and his wife Kimberly are helping families located in the Rockaways. The Chandlers distributed items there on Saturday, Nov. 17. Please visit tysonchandler.com to see an important message from Tyson and Kimberly as part of a video they made during a visit to Rockaway.

New York Knicks Guard Jason Kidd: Supporting the Jason Kidd Foundation in helping the Mucci Family recover from Hurricane Sandy. Daughter of Linda Bencivenga & John Mucci, Alexa, age 18, attends Brooklyn College. All products purchased from his registry will go to this family in need.

Boston Celtics All-Star Forward Paul Pierce: Through his foundation, the Truth on Health, Pierce will help the many families left without household essentials due to Hurricane Sandy.

Brooklyn Nets Guard Tyshawn Taylor: Is registering for residents of Hoboken Housing Projects (where he grew up) who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. All donations will be given to families in need who live there.

Charlotte Bobcats guard Kemba Walker: Born and raised in NYC, Walker wants to help those affected by Sandy in his hometown who were left without many essentials after the storm.

New York Yankees Pitcher Joba Chamberlain: Chamberlain is helping Stephen Heckman and his family after Hurricane Sandy. Stephen, a 7-year-old boy, is suffering from acute lymphocytic leukemia. In addition to the pain and suffering he has to deal with daily due to his diagnosis, he and his family live in Amityville, Long Island and lost their home in the storm. Their car stopped working due to saltwater corrosion from the hurricane, yet still the family remains upbeat.

Minnesota Timberwolves player Kevin Love: Please donate through his registry to help Josette Grippo and Danny Landberg and their 4-year-old son Justin. They lost everything they have and are living in a basement studio they just moved into while they figure out how they can rebuild.

Brooklyn Nets Guard CJ Watson: All purchases from this registry will be sent to the Quiet Storm Foundation to help families in need.

Brooklyn Nets Guard Jerry Stackhouse: All items purchased from his registry will go directly to families in need throughout NYC.
