Queens Zoo Welcomes Olympia the Elk

Olympia the Roosevelt elk, Queens ZooThe Wildlife Conservation Society’s Queens Zoo embraced a new tenant last month. Olympia, a Roosevelt elk who will grow to weigh nearly 450 pounds, joined a crew of four Roosevelt elk already accustomed to the zoo’s grassy plains. The largest sub-category of elk, Roosevelt elk earn their title of largest-bodied animals in North America. While Olympia awaits her growth spurt however, she appears somewhat petite when compared to her zoo-mates. In the meantime, the cow (female elk) has taken to nibbling on flora and exploring her new home.
