United Hospice of Rockland¹s (UHR) Trees of Life Lighting Ceremony - Palisades Center

United Hospice of Rockland once again hosts this touching holiday tribute and fundraiser on level one, near Banana Republic. From November 30-December 24, between the hours of 10am and 8:30pm, UHR volunteers will staff the Tree of Life table to accept purchases of stars in honor or memory of a loved one. Trees will be lit on December 12 (snow date December 13) at a special ceremony featuring musical entertainment by the Lower Hudson Valley Youth Chorus. Members of the group come from Rockland and Westchester Counties, New Jersey, and upstate New York. Light refreshments will be served.

One Voice: World Record Attempt for Caroling - Compo Beach in Westport

All are welcome to participate in “One Voice,” an attempt by Fairfield County residents to set a record in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most number of people singing Christmas carols at the same time, door to door. Caroling begins at Compo Beach in Westport, CT and follows a predetermined, non-strenuous half-mile route. Over 250 people are needed to sing and complete the route if a new record is to be set. Participants must register online at carolingworldrecord.org no later than December 10. The event will benefit the Lily Sarah Grace Fund which supports the arts in underfunded elementary schools across America. Lily, Sarah and Grace are three young sisters who lost their lives when their Stamford home burnt to the ground on December 25, 2011. The Lily Sarah Grace Fund was established by their father, Matthew Badger, in their memory. For more information on the charity, please lilysarahgracefund.org.

'Peter & the Wolf' Narrated by Isaac Mizrahi - Guggenheim Museum

Isaac Mizrahi will narrate Sergei Prokofiev's charming children's classic, as George Manahan conducts the Juilliard Ensemble. Artist Will Cotton will bring the production to life with a newly commissioned installation, in which the familiar characters are set within a gingerbread chalet. The audience is invited to view the artwork on stage following the program. The story brings 30 minutes of suspense, including a happy ending, and allows the young and young at heart to learn and remember the various instruments in the orchestra. Second show at 4pm.

The story follows the quest of home-loving hobbit Bilbo Baggins who is determined to secure his share of treasure guarded by Smaug, the dragon. The Hobbit will eventually be told in a series of three movies: An Unexpected Journey (2012), The Desolation of Smaug (2013), and There and Back Again (2014).
