For the past three years a group of dedicated George Carlin fans, led by comedian Kevin Bartini have been working tirelessly to petition the city of New York to name the street he grew up on in his honor "George Carlin Way." While thousands of people signed their petition and lent moral support to the cause the effort to honor Mr. Carlin was met by intense resistance by the local Catholic school and church that George Carlin attended which still takes up a large section of this block on 121 Street. After much debate and bureaucratic red tape, the committee to co name West 121st street George Carlin way is only a "yeah" vote by the city council away from declaring victory and finally paying tribute to one of the greatest comedians that the city of New York has ever produced! Being this close to the finish line, Gotham Comedy Club has generously offered their venue and has put together an all-star line up to pay tribute to Mr. Carlin and to raise funds to help cover the costs of this effort so far and to insure that those of us who hold George Carlin in such high esteem will inevitably be able to pay our tribute to him and have a place in New York City to commemorate all that he meant to us.

Jars of Clay - B.B. King Blues Club & Grill
July 18, 2013 - New York

Jars of Clay were the breakout band of the so-called alternative CCM movement of the '90s, scoring an enormous mainstream hit with their debut single, "Flood." The group's lyrics may have been exclusively Christian, but their mostly acoustic music fit perfectly into the folky jangle pop wing of alternative rock radio, at the time a rarity on the contemporary Christian music scene. Not only did their success set the stage for breakthroughs by Christian bands like dc Talk and Sixpence None the Richer, but it's also difficult to imagine the later popularity of heavier, Christian-themed hard rockers like Creed and P.O.D. without Jars of Clay having established the viability of fusing spiritual themes with mainstream alternative rock sounds. As popular tastes shifted, Jars of Clay found it increasingly difficult to maintain their secular audience, but still commanded a sizable following among Christian youth and remained one of the highest-profile groups in any gospel-music subgenre.

Enjoy shopping, eating, and listening to great music al fresco on Thursday evenings throughout the summer. Hosted by WFAS-FM, the show starts at 6pm, with an opening act featuring local talent from WFAS's popular Music Lounge. Formed in March of 2006, with one goal, to be the best, the members of Abraxas have honed their show to be not just a musical tribute to the legendary Carlos Santana, but an experience that you'll remember for a long time to come. "Abraxas: The Santana Experience" has played around the world with musicians from acts like Toto, Blue Oyster Cult, and Santana's own band. This seven-member act is fronted by Alex Ligertwood, who performed with Santana for over 16 years and sang, wrote, and/or co-wrote hits such as "Open Invitation," "She's Not There," "Hold On," "The Sensitive Kind," "All I Ever Wanted," and many others. Abraxas brings virtuosity and passion to everything folks love about the Latin legend - propulsive Latin percussion, fiery lead guitar work, keyboard wizardry, lush vocals, and, of course, the groove.
