Join the Alliance at the Audubon Center to celebrate Earth Day! Learn about responsible fishing from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. Have fun cleaning up the lakeshore, learning about birds of prey, and making your own instrument using recycled materials. The day is topped off with an exciting performance and parade by Bash the Trash.

The city's new train stations and bus depots are greener than ever. Many of them generate and use energy more efficiently with solar panels and green roofs, and some even collect and use rainwater. We'll talk about what it means to be "green" and look at examples of MTA buildings with green technology. Then design an eco-friendly city with us and take home your own green building, complete with a planted green roof.

A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald - Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts

Dubbed "The First Lady of Song," Ella Fitzgerald was the most popular female jazz singer in America for more than half a century. This special tribute concert, performed by the 17-member Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra featuring vocalist Deloris King Williams, will include original arrangements pulled from the Smithsonian and Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation archives, many of which haven't been heard by live audiences for over 40 years.

View Brooklyn Historical Society's rare copy of the Emancipation Proclamation, signed by Abraham Lincoln in 1863, and examine its dramatic and polemic impact on Americans at the height of the Civil War. The exhibit suggests ways that the document's social and political meaning has evolved in the 150 years since it was signed, and invites visitors to reflect on its legacy in the twenty-first century.

Since 1965, when the New York City Landmarks law was instituted, more than 30,000 structures and environments have been protected from destruction through landmark designation. Explore the history of New York through the lens of its landmark buildings in this exhibit of photographs, The show documents architectural structures of all types that reflect the city's history, from the seventeenth through the twentieth centuries.

It's a bird... it's a plane... no... it's Bessie the cow!

City Parks Foundation is proud to announce the launch of Bessie's Big Shot. Based on the famed PuppetMobile show of the same name.

Bessie's Big Shot follows Bessie the cow as she chases her dream of joining the circus. Can she lift more than Ziegfried, the strongest man in the world? Fly on a trapeze high above the crowd? Train Munson the Monkey? This variety show cheers Bessie on as she attempts the impossible and searches for her special talents.

Directed by Bruce Cannon, co-written by Douglas Strich, Alexander Bartenieff, and Bruce Cannon and making its Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre debut on Jan. 14, this version of Bessie's Big Shot features several new puppets as well as new and extended scenes.

Constructed from trees and other materials damaged by recent storms, the Area serves to surround children with natural elements as they play, exercising their minds and muscles.
