Freshwater Fishing - Prospect Park Audubon Center
May 10, 2014 - Crown Heights

An experienced Urban Park Ranger teaches the ethics of fishing and the ecology of our waterways in every fishing program. Kids, age 8 and older, and adults can try to hook a largemouth bass, pumpkinseed sunfish, carp or chain pickerel. A mandatory safety review precedes each session.

Picture Book - New York Transit Museum

Take a tour of Borough Hall and use the Museum's cameras (or bring your own) to take digital pictures of signage, art, structures, and subway cars. Back at the Museum, participants can digitally alter their photos and assemble them into a picture book. Limited Capacity. Call to register.

Artists, including those featured in the exhibition Witness: Art and Civil Rights in the Sixties, come together for a series of intergenerational conversations and performances dealing with the challenges of cultural activism during the Civil Rights era and today. The afternoon's schedule follows: 1–2:15 p.m. Roundtable with Witness artists Jack Whitten, Bruce Davidson, and Mark di Suvero and artists LaToya Ruby Frazier and Abigail DeVille; moderated by Teresa A. Carbone, Andrew W. Mellon Curator of American Art. 2:30–3:45 p.m. Roundtable with Witness artists Ademola Olugebefola and Jae Jarrell and artists Leslie Hewitt, Adam Pendleton, Steffani Jemison, and Kambui Olujimi; moderated by Kellie Jones, Associate Professor, Department of Art History and Archaeology, Columbia University. 4 p.m. Performance by Guthrie P. Brooklyn Navy Yard Overview Tour: The Past, The Present, and The Future - Brooklyn Navy Yard Center at Building 92

Witness: Art and Civil Rights in the '60s - Brooklyn Museum

This exhibit is a focused look at painting, sculpture, graphics, and photography from a decade defined by social protest and American race relations, featuring 66 of the decade's artists.

'Bessie's Big Shot' - Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre

It's a bird... it's a plane... no... it's Bessie the cow!

City Parks Foundation is proud to announce the launch of Bessie's Big Shot. Based on the famed PuppetMobile show of the same name.

Bessie's Big Shot follows Bessie the cow as she chases her dream of joining the circus. Can she lift more than Ziegfried, the strongest man in the world? Fly on a trapeze high above the crowd? Train Munson the Monkey? This variety show cheers Bessie on as she attempts the impossible and searches for her special talents.

Directed by Bruce Cannon, co-written by Douglas Strich, Alexander Bartenieff, and Bruce Cannon and making its Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre debut on Jan. 14, this version of Bessie's Big Shot features several new puppets as well as new and extended scenes.

Enter the park at the Grand Army Plaza entrance and walk along Park Drive toward the carousel and you'll find the Donald and Barbara Zucker Natural Exploration Area. Constructed from trees and other materials damaged by recent storms, the Area serves to surround children with natural elements as they play, exercising their minds and muscles.

Little Hands Creative Play Workshop for Toddlers - Barking Cat Studio

Peter & the Wolf - Puppetworks Theatre

Visit Puppetworks and enjoy three shows at each performance: "The Ugly Duckling," by Hans Christian Andersen, told with Shadow Puppets, "Peter & the Wolf," Prokofiev's Musical Adventure, and "The Frog Prince," the Brothers Grimm story, told with marionettes.
