Arty Facts - Brooklyn Museum
Through May 19, 2013 - Prospect Heights

Children ages 4-7 and their adult friends explore the galleries, enjoy a family activity, and make their own art in this 90-minute class, each one a variation on a monthly theme.

Gone Fishing - Staten Island Zoo
May 19, 2013 - Staten Island

Kerry Gallagher of the Zoo's education department will demonstrate techniques on how to fish, where to fish, what equipment to use, while reviewing the the laws on which types of fish are fair game. Participants should be prepared to set aside three more dates to take full advantage of the program: April 21, May 5, and May 19. Equipment will be provided for the class, but not for participants to keep. The program is free with admission to the Zoo, and starts at 11 am. Fishing takes place at nearby Clove Lake Park. Bend and Bloom Yoga offer children's yoga classes. Mondays are for 8-12 year olds. Tuesdays are for 3-5 year olds. Wednesdays are for 6-8 year olds. Kids are allowed to drop in ($18) or register for a series of classes. Family classes for moms and tots are also available.

Tree house architect Roderick Romero has created a whimsical, inhabitable sculpture using wood from trees felled by Hurricane Sandy. This "tree house" will be part open-air classroom, part viewing point, and part artwork. Created specifically for BBG, it will invite visitors of all ages to experience the Garden in a new way.

World Brooklyn - Brooklyn Children's Museum

Kids can visit examples of stores they might find in some of Brooklyn's ethnic pockets: a Chinese stationary store, a Mexican bakery, a West African import store, to name a few, which are modeled after real Brooklyn businesses. There's also an international grocery store and a replica of the famous L&B Spumoni pizzeria from Bensonhurst.
