Fact, at the David Filderman Gallery to uncover clues to help solve a mystery in the exhibition ‘Spirit and Identity: Melanesian Works from the Hofstra University Museum Collections.’ This original exhibition showcases, for the first time, an extraordinary aspect of the HUM collections, offering a range of ethnographic artworks and objects created by members of the distinct regional communities of the South Pacific. Works feature ancestral figures, ceremonial masks, warrior shields, and ritualized practical objects crafted from natural materials.

Alice's Wonderland: a most curious adventure - Long Island Children's Museum

Living History tours - Vanderbilt Museum

Living History tours are given every saturday and sunday, beginning on Memorial Day weekend and running through Labor Day weekend. Historical characters, as well as household staff, are portrayed by Museum staff member-actors, in costume and in character -- in Downton Abbey fashion -- as upstairs guests and downstairs servants. The stories visitors hear are taken from the oral histories of local people who worked on the Vanderbilt household staff. The 45-minute tours are a summer highlight at the Mansion. Visitors step into a time machine where they might meet aviation pioneer Howard Hughes, fashion designer Coco Chanel or the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. They were among Willie and Rosamund Vanderbilt's prominent friends, and were summer house guests of the family. Weekends, May 24-September 1.

Science at the Fairs - NY Hall of Science

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1964-65 World�s Fair, NYSCI is collaborating with Queens Historical Society curator, Richard Hourahan, to bring the history of science at the World�s Fairs to NYSCI with a photo exhibit. Get a snapshot of how science was viewed and presented to the public 75 and 50 years ago. The ideas, the excitement, and the latest achievements, hopes and fears are told through a compelling series of black and white photographs and audio and video excerpts of the presentations, exhibits and visitors who flocked to the fairs. The exhibit runs through Sept. 27.

Sculpture Art Caper and Exploration Activity - Hofstra University Museum, Emily Lowe Gallery

Adults and children can explore the outdoor sculpture collection on Hofstra’s beautiful campus with activity-filled animal, shapes or people-themed HUM Sculpture Exploration Backpacks or by solving an Art Caper mystery in which they unravel the clues found in the sculpture collection. Children ages 6 and up and their families can explore and discover the beauty of the world’s cultures using activity-filled backpacks that enhance experiences with authentic objects from the Hofstra University Museum’s collections. While exploring specific works displayed in the David Filderman Gallery, children create their own keepsake artworks inspired by the art and cultures they discover. Families may pick up the backpacks at the Emily Lowe Gallery during museum hours (see website for current hours).

School Days: Planting Fields as a University 1955-1972 - Planting Fields Arboretum- Coe Hall Mansion

Relive the School Days of Planting Fields!Before Planting Fields was a State Park and arboretum, it was William Robertson Coe�s estate, purchased in 1913. Mr. Coe arranged for Planting Fields to be gifted to New York State upon his death, and used as a school of horticulture, and later was part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system for 16 years. This exhibition is open daily and runs through September 30.

Sky Zone Deer Park Special Needs Jump Event - Sky Zone Deer Park

Sky Zone Deer Park Indoor Trampoline Park will be opening on the first Monday of each month exclusively for jumpers with special needs. Sky Zone Deer Park team members have been trained and certified by Missing Piece Awareness to be autism aware and accepting and special modifications have been implemented by the management team. On this day for children and adults with special needs, Sky Zone dials down the music, increases the staff ratio, and limits capacity. The Sky Zone team understands the need to provide families affected by autism with a recurring session time where individuals can learn the rules and practice them in a safe and comfortable environment so they can eventually generalize these skills and be fully integrated at any time. First Mondays of the month, June 2-December 1, 2014.
