Summer Workshops for Children - Vanderbilt Museum

Each workshop begins with an educator-led visit through the Vanderbilt Museum collections. Throughout the summer, the Westhampton Free Library's teen department is promoting a new random acts of kindness initiative in the form of a BINGO game. The project provides the opportunity for teens to earn community service hours by accomplishing kindness tasks listed on BINGO boards supplied by the library. Kindness activities listed on the BINGO boards include, for example, planting a tree or flower, participating in a community event or food or clothing drive and dispensing compliments and encouraging words. Teens interested in taking part in the imitative can pick up a BINGO board during regular library hours.

Pattern Wizardry - Long Island Children's Museum

Throw on your pattern cape, pick up your magic wand and get ready to fall under the spell of... PATTERNS. Visitors who enter this magical exhibit will become an “apprentice wizard” as they explore and play with the power of patterns. Presented entirely in rhyme, this wildly whimsical sensory exhibit features four interactive pattern areas: Spiral Spells, Tessellation Station, Branch, Branch and Linear Lab. The exhibition also features a Wizard Library, a computer pattern station where kids can create their own patterns and Symmetry Sorcery, where children investigate how we use symmetry to organize patterns. This bilingual (English/Spanish) exhibit introduces the fundamentals of patterns as the building blocks of our natural and man-made world and as a critical developmental tool for children.

Hunting the Whale: The Rise and Fall of a Southampton Industry - South Hampton Historical Museum, Rogers Mansion

This interactive and inclusive exhibit adds new discoveries to the accumulation of documentation and artifacts collected over more than 100 years to illuminate Southampton Village's prominent role in the whaling industry at its mid-19th century height. Whaling tools, maps, illustrations, archival images and text will be displayed with an eye toward making the exhibit accessible to audiences of varied interests and all ages. Among those whose roles will be highlighted are local indigenous people, slaves, servants, whaling captains, and the families that were sustained by the whaling industry. This exhibit takes place inside the historic Captain Albert Rogers Mansion, a 20 room Greek-revival house was built in 1843 during the peak of the whaling industry. It was built by Captain Rogers was one of the many prosperous whaling captains living in Southampton during the 19th century. Opening Reception: Saturday, March 4th 4-6pm.

Sky Zone Deer Park Indoor Trampoline Park will be opening on the first Monday of each month exclusively for jumpers with special needs. Sky Zone Deer Park team members have been trained and certified by Missing Piece Awareness to be autism aware and accepting and special modifications have been implemented by the management team. On this day for children and adults with special needs, Sky Zone dials down the music, increases the staff ratio, and limits capacity. The Sky Zone team understands the need to provide families affected by autism with a recurring session time where individuals can learn the rules and practice them in a safe and comfortable environment so they can eventually generalize these skills and be fully integrated at any time. Takes place the first Monday of the month through June 2015.
