Hallockville Museum Historic Farm Tour - Hallockville Museum Farm

Step back in time to life as a North Fork farmer from the 1700's to the 1930's. Explore 28 acres along with 19 historic houses, barns and outbuildings ranging from the mid-18th century Hallock Homestead to the Depression-era Cichanowicz Farmhouse. Tour the museum's buildings, gardens and collections. Experience real farming in the museum's fields and meet cows, sheep and chickens. Through December 22, 2012.

Toys For Tots Toy Drive - Toys 'R' Us-The Hub
Through December 24, 2012 - Hempstead

The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve's premier community action program, collecting new toys to give to kids in need across the country each holiday season. Toys'R'Us, Inc. and Toys for Tots are united in their commitment to bring toys to children who might otherwise go without on Christmas morning. You may give a monetary donation online or you may choose to donate a new toy to the drop locations of Toys "R" Us nationwide, including this location. The toy drive runs through December 24.

Long Island- America's 1950s Frontier - Long Island Museum

The exhibit features compelling artifacts, photographs, and video oral histories, as well as a fashion gallery that displays trendy 1950s clothing. Other special artifacts include a working jukebox, a hat worn by famous developer Robert Moses, and popular toys from the era, like a Red Ryder BB gun. The exhibition will transport viewers to a time brimming with optimism, with difficulties just below the surface. It was a moment when Long Island was at the forefront of where the nation was-- and where it was headed. The exhibition runs through December 31, 2012.

Building Boom with KEVA encourages you to conceive, then build, the design project of your dreams -- bridges, skyscrapers, castles, airplanes, trestles, spirals and more. You?ll develop a first-hand understanding of the physical forces at work in the design process as you apply principles of balance, proportion and geometry to your design. Building Boom with KEVA brings out the designer, architect and engineer in each of us as you problem solve and think in three dimension. Uniform in size, KEVA planks use only gravity ? no glue or connectors. You'll dabble with physics to achieve balance, proportion and stability. Stumped for a design project? Draw inspiration from 50 permanent building models on display. This exhibit runs through January 6, 2013.

KaleidoZone - Chaos and Containment - Long Island Children's Museum

Chaos and Containment are two psychological states all human beings experience in varying degrees and intensity. This exhibit intends to inspire and foster conversations pertaining to the differences and parallels between art made by artists and art made by artists with mental disabilities. Visitors will see and appreciate each other�s qualities even if those go hidden behind us being distracted by out-of-the-norm behaviors caused by a disability. This exhibit features a selection of work that was created in an art therapy workshop at Family Residences and Essential Enterprises. The exhibit runs through January 6, 2013.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL- A Ghost Story of Christmas - John W. Engeman Theater

ReGeneration - New York Hall of Science

This exhibition explores the connection of cultural vitality to immigration, urbanization, and sustainability through the intersection of art, technology, and science. Fourteen artists/groups will participate to connect audiences through active participation, aesthetic beauty, technology, culturally shared symbols, and vocabulary. Family Sundays at the Museum - Nassau County Museum of Art

Now there's even more reason for families to plan the weekend around a visit to Nassau County Museum of Art. Learn from a docent-led family walk-through of the exhibition and supervised art activities for the whole family beginning at 1:30pm. Special family guides of the main exhibition are available in the galleries. No reservations needed.

Artists in America - Nassau County Museum of Art

Artists in America surveys 300 years of great American painting rarely seen on Long Island. Its 79 works dating from the early 1700s to the present include history painting, landscape, portraits, still life, and modernist abstraction with significant examples of photography, collage, and other media. Major artists from every era of American art are on view, including John Singleton Copley, Charles Willson Peale, John Singer Sargent, James Abbott McNeill Whistler, Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keeffe, Norman Rockwell, Robert Motherwell and Sol LeWitt. All works in the exhibition are selected from the permanent collections of the New Britain Museum of American Art in Connecticut. The exhibition runs through February 24, 2013.

Family Sundays at the Museum - Nassau County Museum of Art

Each Sunday the museum offers a docent-led family walk-through of the exhibition and supervised art activities for the whole family beginning at 1:30 p.m. Special family guides of the main exhibition are available in the galleries. Weekends only there is a $2 parking fee. This program runs through February 24, 2013.

Autism Spectrum Parent Support Group - Family and Children's Association
Through September 01, 2013 - Mineola

Family Center’s Spectrum Support Group offers caregivers mutual support by providing opportunities to meet with others also raising children who are dually diagnosed. To be eligible the child must have a primary Mental Health diagnosis and a secondary Spectrum diagnosis. Groups are facilitated by Parent Advocates, each having their own unique experience raising a child under the Spectrum. While caregivers attend group, respite can be provided to children ages 5-17. To receive respite, an intake is required. This ensures staff is familiar with the child, making caregiver’s participation more relaxing. Meetings are held the first and third Monday of each month, except holidays. RSVP Miriam at 516-485-5914 xtn 2223 no later than seven days prior to the meeting date.

Sculpture Mystery: The Great Art Caper - Hofstra University Museum

Uncover clues to help solve a mystery in the outdoor sculpture collection. Pick up your caper kit at Emily Lowe Gallery, have fun while discovering more about these works, and at the end of the caper return to Emily Lowe Gallery for a prize. Sculpture Exploration Backpack - Hofstra University Museum

Kids and their grown up companions can stop in at the Hofstra University Museum's Emily Lowe Gallery, and pick up a backpack. At the end of your tour, return the backpack and each child will receive a small gift from the Museum. The program runs through January 1, 2014.

Outdoor Sculpture Biennial - Adelphi University
Through May 31, 2014 - Garden City

See the work of 10 skilled sculptors located throughout the scenic 75-acre arboretum on the Garden City campus. This outdoor installation showcases the talents of Miggy Buck (NY), John Clement (NY), Maria Hall (NY), Ed Haugevik (NY), William King (NY), Anti Liu (NY), Johnny Poux (NY), Kim Radochia (MA), Christopher Saucedo (NY), and Hans Van de Bovenkamp (NY). Works of art encompass use of various materials-steel, bronze, aluminum, concrete and reflective mirrors. These man-made creations are transposed into poetic visual narrations. The exhibition runs through May 31, 2014.
