Celebrating Women In Jazz - this tribute concert with international recording artist, songstress Antoinette Montague and her Quintet honors iconic women in song: Etta Jones, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Judy Garland, and many more! 'Pirate Pete's Parrot' - The Secret Theatre

Ahoy, Matte! Climb on board and get ready for a musical adventure. This show revolves around Pirate Pete, a lovable rogue on a mission to find his beloved runaway parrot, Polly (who prefers pancakes to boring old birdseed). Music, mischief, and a boatload of laughs for both children and adults.

Hands-on History: Make Me a Portrait - King Manor Museum

A picture can tell 1,000 stories, and every portrait tells a unique story all it's own. Have you ever made a portrait? Children can learn about the people and meanings in the portraits at King Manor, and then tell their story and show their creativity when they make their own special portrait.

Family Art Project: Daffy for Daffodils - Wave Hill
April 13, 2013 - Bronx

Celebrate our flowering world by becoming a daffodil for a day. Make a hat or costume, complete with a fringed trumpet and circle of petals, and join in a parade of spring blossoms. Free, and admission to the grounds is free until 12pm.

Children's Carnival - Queens County Farm Museum
April 13, 2013 - Floral Park

Enjoy an good ole-fashioned carnival in the apple orchard. Carnival rides, midway games, and prizes, hayrides, and children's entertainment, and more. Admission per person includes entry to the farm grounds and carnival rides at no additonal charge. Note: height rules apply at all rides.

Baby Bonanza - Alley Pond Environmental Center

In this program for 3 and 4 year olds, kids will learn about the baby animals that live in the park. They can enjoy a snack, sing songs, make a craft and play some games, and finally take a walk (weather permitting) and visit with APEC's live animals. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited. Participants must be toilet trained as this is a drop-off class.

Magnificent Trees of The New York Botanical Garden - New York Botanical Garden
Through April 14, 2013 - Bronx

Larry Lederman, landscape photographer and member of NYBG's Board of Advisors, has spent years walking the garden grounds to observe and photograph trees and vistas in all seasons and at all times of day. Lush images featuring their diversity and visual impact are on view in the gallery space. The New York Botanical Garden is home to more than 30,000 trees, some in woodland, some in groves, and some standing in solitary majesty. Magnificent Trees is lavishly illustrated with photographs by Larry Lederman and accompanied by descriptions by Todd A. Forrest, Arthur Ross vice president for horticulture and living collections at the garden. An authority on the diverse species present across the 250-acre landscape, Forrest details their fascinating histories -- from their vital role in Native American life and culture to their function in neutral territory during the Revolutionary War. Lederman captures their grandeur in hundreds of stunning images and portrays their diversity with photographs that reveal the trees in myriad fascinating perspectives: in landscape views that convey the garden's genius loci; portraits illustrating the architecture and profound visual impact of select trees; remarkable details of flowers, fruit, leaves, and bark; and impressionistic images, abstract in character yet beautiful in composition.

The Orchid Show - The New York Botanical Garden
Through April 22, 2013 - Bronx

The 11th annual exhibition celebrates this storied flower in all its amazing forms with thousands of brilliantly colored orchids. The largest exhibition of its kind in the United States also offers insight into caring for orchids, music from around the world, and a gorgeous setting for evening cocktails. Elaborate and kaleidoscopic displays throughout the galleries of the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory explode with orchids in an amazing array of colors, shapes, sizes, and textures. Tens of thousands of blooms -- blue and purple vandas, green and yellow cymbidiums, delicate pink and white moth orchids, and more -- stand out amid stately palms and exotic tropical leaves. This year, The Orchid Show is designed by Francisca P. Coelho, Vivian and Edward Merrin Vice President for Glasshouses and Exhibitions at the Garden. Coehlho is best known for her plantsmanship and key role in the design and development of high profile shows in the Conservatory. There will be demonstrations, Q&A's, guided tours, lectures, evening events, and classes. An All-Garden Pass includes admission to the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, Everett Children's Adventure Garden, Rock Garden, Tram Tour, and more. Through April 22.

Rainbows - Long Island Children's Museum

Come learn the colors of the rainbow and how they are made. Have fun painting your own beautiful rainbow to brighten up April's spring showers. The program runs through April 30.

Spectacle: The Music Video - Museum of the Moving Image
Through June 16, 2013 - Astoria

This groundbreaking exhibition explores music video as an important and influential art form in contemporary culture and is the most comprehensive museum exhibition on music videos presented to date. Spectacle highlights the form's place at the forefront of creative technology, its role in pushing the boundaries of innovative production, its important role as an experimental sandbox for filmmakers, and its lasting effects on popular culture globally. The exhibition features more than 300 videos, presented alongside artifacts and interactive experiences, and will be installed in the Museum's 4,000 sq.-ft. changing exhibitions gallery, amphitheater gallery, and other spaces.
