Celebrate Women’s History Month with Kids in Brooklyn

March 3

At the Brooklyn Public Library, the all-girl band Just Girls presents a family concert that demonstrates how women can make music with just about any instrument.

 

March 9

The Brooklyn Museum is presenting Free Teen Night Open House: Celebrating Women’s Art History, when teen visitors can enjoy live performances, hands-on workshops, art demonstrations, and knitting lessons, then explore the museum’s vast collection of feminist art.

The Brooklyn Children’s Museum has events scattered throughout the month, including the Extraordinary Women series, which looks at the breakthroughs and accomplishments of the Maasai Women of Africa, Michelle Obama, women firefighters, Mae Jemison, and Maya Lin.

A performance by the dance company Urban Bush Women, who interpret stories of disenfranchisement through a female perspective, begins the celebration.
