Students of the Academy of the Holy Angels in Demarest, NJ Awarded Scholarships

Academy of the Holy Angels is no stranger to charity, from their students’ fundraising efforts for dental care on World Smile Day, to their ongoing project to provide support to victims of Hurricane Maria. This time however, the Academy is giving back to some of their own. These are the students that were winners and semifinalists for this year’s Sister Nonna Dunphy Scholarship.

Each year, the Academy of Holy Angels presents two seniors, juniors, and sophomores with $1,000 scholarship awards named for the school’s foundress, Sister Nonna Dunphy. Finalists are selected based on academic achievement, leadership, character, service, and an interview conducted by the Scholarship Committee.

This year’s finalists are seniors Kirsten Garino of Oradell, NJ and Olivia Mandella of Montvale, NJ, juniors Shannon Dobres of Bergenfield, NJ and Katherine Gazzini of Ridgewood, NJ, and sophomores Emma DeMarco of South Nyack, NY and Brigid Miller of Pearl River, NY.

Semi-finalists include seniors Ashley Hess of Cedar Grove, NJ and Timea Papp of Hawthorne, NJ, juniors Sophia Luongo of Upper Saddle River, NJ and Joanna Scorese of Mahwah, NJ, and sophomores Colleen Driscoll of Oradell, NJ Mary Quimbo of Woodcliff Lake, NJ, and Kimberly Pienkawa of Upper Nyack, NY.

The student recipients were all recognized at the school’s Foundation Day celebration on October 19, an annual event that marks the anniversary of the establishment of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Academy of Holy Angels’ foundresses, and sponsors.
