Adelphi University students took home eight awards at the annual Press Club of Long Island Awards Dinner, including an award for the university’s school newspaper The Delphian.
Seven Adelphi University students were honored with awards and scholarships at the annual Press Club of Long Island Awards Dinner, held June 5 at the Woodbury Country Club. The Press Club is the local chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Most notably, the organization named Adelphi’s school newspaper, The Delphian, as “Best College Newspaper” this year.

Senior adjunct professor Liza Burby, who serves as faculty adviser to The Delphian, won second place in the feature/lifestyle category for her article, “The Redshirting Debate: Should You Hold Your Child Back from Kindergarten?” which appeared in Long Island Parent magazine.
Burby, says she is proud of the students’ accomplishments, which included:
College Newspaper Reporter: Brett Spielberg, first place
Best College Newspaper: The Delphian, first place
College Sports Reporting: Vinny Messana, second place; Victoria Chiesa, third place
College Feature Story: Stephen Levine, second place
Video, College News Package: Chris Hart and Robbie Lucia, first place

Learning Disability Journalism Scholarship: Gregory Gianconelli
