Badger Day Camp in Larchmont Adds Programs

Badger Day Camp in Westchester County is adding nature and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) programs to provide campers with a variety of hands-on learning opportunities.

Badger Day Camp
, which serves kids ages 3-12, has new offerings. Its nature program aims to teach campers about the environment. Campers of all ages can work with sustainable gardens, meet little creatures, and go hiking. Other hands on-learning opportunities include water collecting, making birdhouses, and planting vegetables.

The STEAM program will offer hands-on projects such as rocket building, coding, race cars and 3-D printers. Through a partnership with the tech store MacInspires—which has helped teach technology for over 13 years—Badger Day Camp aims to exceed the offerings of traditional day camps. Badger also offers STEAM-like programs for 3- and 4-year-old campers, in which campers will learn by using Legos.

This summer, campers will also have the opportunity to choose elective programs to substitute a second period of swim. Badger has an Olympic-sized pool and each swim period is split between instruction and free swim.

“In the past, the programs throughout the day have been chosen for the campers,” said John Collins, owner of Badger Day Camp. “Now students have the option to choose an elective from a variety of fun programs.”

Campers can choose from the nature and STEAM programs, along with cooking, golf, tennis, drama, dance, and more.

Ben Foster, an English professional soccer player, will lead the soccer program. Other esteemed visiting staff include Lea Loveless Maurer, a former Olympic swimmer and past head coach of the Stanford women’s swim team.
