New York Children’s Theater Festival

WHAT: This year’s productions include The Sock Who Lost His Mate and The Meanest Birthday Girl.
WHY WE LOVE IT: It’s New York’s only nonprofit festival dedicated to theater for young people.

Goodnight Moon

WHERE: Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Ave., Garden City
AGES: 5 and older
WHAT: Upbeat songs, a live pianist, and innovative puppetry give life to the various objects in Bunny’s room.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Bunny is adorable. Plus, you can stick around after the show for a day at the museum.

Bethpage Air Show

WHERE: Jones Beach State Park, 1000 Ocean Parkway, Wantagh

WHAT: The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will headline this year’s show. Their performance will feature formation flying and solo routines.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Great lineup of airpower, parachutists, and skytypers.

The Odd Couple: Female Version

WHAT: Honor veterans and fallen heroes. The West Point Marching Band leads the parade.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Held annually since 1927, this parade is a local favorite.
