Nursery School in Beechhurst Offers Flexible Scheduling

Braithwaite Nursery School now offers flexible day options, which will allow parents to make their own schedules.

Braithwaite Nursery School in Beechhurst now offers flexible day options, which will allow parents to make their own schedules, choosing one to five days for their child to attend the 9am-12pm weekday class. Early registration is recommended as availability is first come, first served.

Braithwaite Nursery School was founded in 2003 by two longtime early childhood teachers, Lynne and Ron Braithwaite. The Braithwaites loved teaching, but their experience in education gave them insights into how they wanted early childhood education to look. Ideally, class sizes would be small, children would have structured time to play and explore, and the learning environment would be suited for each individual child.

At Braithwaite Nursery School, classes are limited to six children, ages 2-4, with two teachers per class to allow for individual attention. After some experimentation with morning and afternoon times, the Braithwaites have found that the hours of 9am-12pm are prime time for this age group: The children are happy, energetic, and full of fun.

Every day follows the same routine, with different activities. Lynne Braithwaite says that this helps the children feel secure in what’s going to come next. “We do a lot of science [activities] because we have a large backyard,” she says. “They [the children] can see the trees and the leaves and the birds. It’s really great to see what they observe.”
