City Parents Legal Planning
focuses on legal planning for parents with young kids. This law firm opened in January and helps parents set up wills, trusts, and guardianship for their children.

Shannon McNulty, founder and attorney with an LL.M. in Taxation, says that City Parent is the only law firm in New York City with emphasis on legal planning for young kids. Some of the services the firm provides include estate planning, financial resources, and tax analyses.

McNulty says parents who have assets they want their children to inherit or have children younger than 18 that may need proper guardianship should visit the firm to ensure that their children are taken care of if something unforeseen, such as unexpected hospitalization, were to happen. “It’s a scary topic and it’s something [parents] sometimes avoid, which is definitely not a good thing, so I really wanted to make it easy for them,” McNulty says.

Kids with special needs are also cared for to ensure they will receive public assistance or assets that will not exclude them from government benefits, such as SSI or Medicaid. Medication, allergies, and other health notes are documented to make sure these kids will be taken care of.

When opening City Parents, McNulty kept parents’ busy schedules in mind. Her hours are from Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm, and she offers appointments after hours and on weekends, if necessary.
