Winter Wildlife Festival - This event has been cancelled - Westmoreland Sanctuary

This event has been cancelled. Discover the wonders of winter and what the animals are doing during the chilly months. Make pine cone bird feeders to attract wintering birds to your yard, a great craft for all ages. To spice up the winter festival, take part in the chili cook off by sampling or entering your chili!

41st Annual Art Show: Bedford - St. Matthew's Church Fellowship Hall

Winterfest at Earthplace - Earthplace

Celebrate winter at Earthplace. Enjoy a horse-drawn sleigh ride around our property, make an ice sculpture, take a winter walk in the woods and more during this family-friendly day at Earthplace. Winterfest activities include animal encounters, winter-themed crafts, guided trail walks, a campfire with s'mores and hot chocolate, horse-drawn sleigh rides from Foxglove Farm and food from the Firehouse Hot Dog Cart. There is a small fee for sleigh rides and Firehouse food.

BBG's enchanting winter pop-up returns, with a weekend of family activities, a special day just for tweens, and programs for seniors. Play old-school games in the Lite-Brite Lounge, learn circus skills, listen to storytelling, and more.

Chinese New Year Celebration @ Pelham Art Center - Pelham Art Center
January 25, 2014 - Pelham

In collaboration with the Junior League of Pelham, Chinese New Year returns to Pelham Art Center on Saturday, January 25, 2014 with family-friendly activities commemorating the beginning of the Year of the Horse! From 10a-12pm, paper-craft workshops will be held in which participants can create a Chinese lantern or a traditional banner decorated with calligraphy. At 11:15am, members of Kwan's Kung Fu, from Peekskill, NY, will perform a traditional Lion Dance, believed in Chinese culture to scare away evil spirits and to bring good luck. As part of the Folk Arts Series, this event is free and open to all ages. Please RSVP to 914-738-2525 x111. The Lion Dance program includes an educational and historical introduction of the dance, an interactive performance, followed by a question and answer period. During the performance the lion makes its way around the room interacting with the crowd. Children can feed red envelopes filled with whatever they like to the lion if they wish to have good luck in the new year. Children will be encouraged to parade with their newly made lanterns when the lion makes its way outdoors. About Chinese New Year Chinese New Year is a traditional Chinese holiday that starts with the new moon on the first day of the lunar new year and ends on the full moon 15 days later. Each year is named for one of 12 symbolic animals: rat, ox, tiger, hare, dragon, snake, horse, ram, monkey, rooster, dog, and boar. January 31, 2014, marks the beginning of the Year of the Horse, ending February 18, 2015. The Horse is the seventh sign in the Chinese Zodiac cycle. Those born in the Year of the Horse are said to be energetic, bright, warm-hearted, intelligent, and able.

Chocolate World Expo - Maritime Aquarium

Taste your way through free samples from some of the region's best chocolatiers and other specialty-food vendors. The Expo, one of the largest consumer-oriented chocolate events in the United States, will feature about 40 vendors who will offer tastings and sales of their products. They'll be set up throughout the Aquarium's galleries.

Rockland Federation's Annual Super Sunday - Rockland Jewish Community Campus
January 26, 2014 - West Nyack

Super Sunday helps Jewish Federation of Rockland raise money for programs that strengthen Jewish life and help those in need in Rockland, Israel and around the world. The day includes a Gap Year Fair for high school students from 3-5pm. Students can learn about programs in Israel (and supporting Israel). PJ Library, a program that sends Jewish books and music to young children, will hold an event for kids children ages 2-7 from 12-1pm ($5 per child). There will also be a showing of the documentary, The Case for Israel from 4:30-5:30pm.

“Spring Community Music Week” - Music Conservatory of Westchester

Music Conservatory of Westchester, a not-for-profit community music school in White Plains, will kick off the New Year - not to mention its 85th year - by offering a week of free classes, workshops, and tours of its 216 Central Park Ave. building, January 25-31. "Spring Community Music Week" will specifically include workshops in Musical Theater, contemporary styles, improv, GarageBand, and a "Jazz Jam" session. Casting call for middle and high school rockers who have a chance to win Ridgefield BandJam 2014. RidgefieldBandJam.com has all the details on how to enter this year's American-Idol style competition before the entry deadline on Saturday, February 22. Live tryouts for the 16 semi-finalist bands will be on Monday, March 10, for middle school bands, and on Tuesday, March 11, for high school bands at The Ridgefield Playhouse. Finalists in both categories will compete for the coveted titles on Sunday, April 27.
