10th Annual Harvest Fest - Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture

Harvest Fest is a daylong celebration and fundraiser for Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture. Festivities for the whole family include live music, hayrides, farm Olympics, food-crafting, farming demonstrations and square dancing! The 10th annual festival is on Saturday, October 5, 2013 from 10am-3pm at Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture, just 45 minutes north of Manhattan. Junior League of Bronxville Touch-A-Truck Family Event - Immaculate Conception School Field

What kid wouldn't love to climb aboard a bulldozer, fire truck, or ambulance? The Junior League of Bronxville's Touch-A-Truck event provides an opportunity for children to get hands-on with a variety of vehicles - public service, construction, utility, landscaping, transportation, antique cars - all in one place. The Junior League of Bronxville (JLB) will hold its 4th Annual Touch-A-Truck family event, Saturday, October 5, 2013, from 10am-3pm, at the Immaculate Conception School Field located at 53 Winterhill Road and White Plains Road (Route 22) in Tuckahoe, New York. TAT Committee Co-Chair Nicole Smith says, "Children will be able to climb on and ask questions about the vehicles and equipment and learn how these machines help us and our community." Bouncy houses, crafts, kid-friendly food, and a LIVE performance by the BOSSY FROG BAND starting at 10:30 will round out the event out and make it a truly exciting day! Tickets for Touch-A-Truck are available at jlbronxville.org or at the door. The cost is $15 for an individual ticket at the door ($10 in advance) or $30 for a family of four. Proceeds from this event will support the JLB mission to fight hunger and promote proper nutrition in its service areas of Bronxville, Eastchester, Mount Vernon, Tuckahoe, and Yonkers. The JLB has been an active and vocal women's volunteer organization in Southern Westchester since 1948.

5th Annual Hounds on the Sound Dog Walk-a-thon & Festival - Glen Island Park
October 06, 2013 - New Rochelle

Finally, an event where you don't have to leave your dog at home! In fact, that's what it's all about. Join in the Hounds on the Sound Dog Walk and Festival in New Rochelle on Sun., Oct. 6 and show off your own four-legged friend while helping those who are still waiting for homes of their own. Hundreds of walkers and their dogs will take a leisurely 1.5-mile stroll along Long Island Sound as they walk the perimeter of Glen Island Park. Dog lovers are invited to register for the fifth annual walk and get pledges of support from family and friends. You can also just show up to walk and pay the $25 registration fee ($40 for a family). The event is a fundraiser for the New Rochelle Humane Society and Pet Rescue of Larchmont, with some of the proceeds going to the Mount Vernon Animal Shelter. Activities will run from 10am-3pm, with the Dog Walk starting at 11:30am. After the procession, everyone is invited to stick around for a fun (and free) afternoon at the park. Browse the wares of two dozen vendors (with lots of dog-related merchandise), listen to music, and enjoy refreshments such as pizza, home-baked treats, and ice cream. Get a take-home photo of you and your dog posing at the water's edge, get a balloon shaped like a dog, watch an agility demonstration, and stop by the "kiddie korner" for some face painting, a game of musical chairs, or best trick competitions. New this year: dress-up for you and your dog and a Frisbee competition! Both dogs and cats will be available for adoption at the event. 29th ANNUAL FEAST OF ST. FRANCIS WITH BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS - The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine

A celebration of fur and feathers will draw thousands of humans and animals alike to the 29th Annual Blessing of the Animals during the Feast of St. Francis on Sunday, October 6th, 11:00 AM, atthe Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street) in Manhattan. Passes are required for the event and can be reserved on the Cathedral's website, stjohndivine.org, beginning September 2. A limited number of passes will be available on the morning of the service on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors will open at 9:45 AM. Inspired by St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment, the celebration will feature a blessing and procession of a variety of creatures through the world's largest Gothic cathedral. Animals that have participated in years past include camels, kangaroos, yaks, elephants, fennec foxes, and many more. Guests are encouraged to bring their pets to the Cathedral to be a part of the celebration and to receive a special blessing. An outdoor fair where Cathedral clergy will bless pets will be held from 1:00 PM ? 4:00 PM and will include festive music, food, a petting zoo, face painting, and tables full of information on environmental advocacy and animal and human rights. Plainview Old Bethpage Craft and Gift Fair - Plainview Library

The Plainview-Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce its Second Annual Craft and Gift Fair. Last year?s Craft Fair was extremely successful and this year the community can look forward to another fun filled day with even more shopping and entertainment! Over 40 vendors are expected; items for purchase include jewelry, homemade glass figurines, clothing and various fun food options. Children will enjoy free face painting, courtesy of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce. Tickets can be purchased at the Fair for bounce house rides, various carnival games, and cotton candy! Just like last year, Carol Place will be closed for the day and the Town?s Show Mobile will be there for various performances. There will be several a capella groups from the Plainview High School providing sweet melodies throughout the day for your entertainment. WBLI 106.1 will also be providing music at the fair. Additional free parking is available in the LIJ Plainview Hospital Parking Lot.

Arts Alive is an Island-wide celebration of Long Island's arts, culture and cuisine and features a Family Series component including the Sag Harbor Music Festival, the Long Island African American Heritage Festival, the Jamboozi Festival at the Vanderbilt Museum, Viva L'Art at Hofstra University Museum, the Heckscher Museum of Art Free art activity on the Museum terrace, the Cinema Arts Centre's Cinema for Kids featuring Gustafer Yellowgold, Elska plus Arctic Animals Workshop at the Long Island Children's Museum, and the Craic Festival Stoked Fest in Long Beach. Over 35 in total will pay tribute to the visual, musical, and performing arts, community festivals and epicurean delights that take place on stages, in galleries, at film houses, and in neighborhood restaurants across Long Island. 2nd Annual 'Arts Alive LI ' Festival - Long Island Arts Alliance

Arts Alive LI is a month-long showcase of Long Island's many art, entertainment and cultural attractions. The event is presented by the Long Island Arts Alliance (LIAA) and Bethpage Federal Credit Union. From visual, musical and performing arts, to community festivals and epicurean delights, Arts Alive LI is a tribute to Long Island's arts and entertainment world and will take place on stages, in galleries, at film houses, and in neighborhood restaurants across Long Island's Nassau and Suffolk counties. Luna Park's Halloween Harvest - Luna Park

Luna Park's Halloween Harvest will take place very weekend in October, in addition to Monday, Oct. 14, Columbus Day. The park will be decorated to the nines with kid-friendly decorations and costumed characters. Families can paint pumpkins together, enjoy seasonal food and beverage and guess the size of Luna Park's giant pumpkin to win cool prizes. As an added treat, sweets will be distributed within the park including family favorites like Welch's Fruit Snacks and Sour Jacks. Luna Park is home to the world famous Cyclone Roller Coaster and has over 28 rides, games and attractions for all ages to enjoy!
