First Shot Launches Evening Summer Basketball Program

First Shot Basketball School, a program that offers after-school basketball lessons for kids in Queens, is launching its evening summer basketball clinics in July.

First Shot Basketball School is launching a new summer program in July. Staring July 6 and running through July 31, two clinics, Power Ball and Olympix will be held each week. The first of its kind at First Shot, these evening clinics expand on traditional programs by helping kids become better scorers and also focus on the full court game.

Older, more experienced players will have the opportunity to participate in the Power Ball program, which will run Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30pm. Typically, children ages 11-14 can register, but some younger players may be considered depending on skill level.

Younger players with slightly less experience can participate in the Olympix program, which will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8:30pm. Children ages 9-13 are encouraged to participate.

During the school year, First Shot’s basketball programs range from beginner to advanced, allowing children ages 3-15 to build confidence, accuracy, sportsmanship, and skills needed to play the game. All coaches are experienced and trained in order to foster a competitive, yet cohesive program.

Joan Mansbach, partner and wife of founder Joel Mansbach, says, “Our goal is building self-esteem through sports. We want the kids to learn and have fun, but what we really want is that they come away feeling good about themselves and their performance.”

First Shot Basketball runs its programs in public schools in Bayside, Jamaica, and Rego Park.
