Five Mile River Nursery School in Rowayton, CT, has partnered with Whole Foods Market, America’s first nationally certified organic grocer, to launch their health conscious initiative to go completely organic.

Five Mile River Nursery School, the first nationally accredited preschool in Connecticut, has partnered with Whole Foods Market, America’s first nationally certified organic grocer, to launch their health conscious initiative to go completely organic.

“Making the switch to go entirely organic was an easy one,” states director of Five Mile River Nursery School, Lauriston Avery. “We want to provide our children with wholesome snacks that are grown in environmentally friendly ways, free of toxins or pesticides that could stunt primary growth and development.”

Soil and plants cannot be treated with chemicals or persistent pesticides or herbicides.Whole Foods Market Darien will be providing Five Mile River Nursery School with wholesome snacks on a bi-monthly basis that are only labeled “Certified Organic” from the USDA. This certification ensures:

  • No synthetic fertilizers or sewage sludge can be used to promote growth.
  • GMOs are not allowed.
  • Animals are fed organic feeds, given access to the outdoors, and allowed to fulfill their natural behaviors.
  • Synthetic growth hormones and antibiotics are forbidden.

“I am thrilled that Whole Foods Market in Darien is dedicated to offering products that support optimal health, well-being and vitality,” states Gail Bisher, parent of a student enrolled at Five Mile River Nursery School. “Having high quality standards for foods that prohibits the use of hydrogenated fats, artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives reassures that my daughter is receiving proper nutrition for prime growth and development.”

“We are pleased to support Five Mile River Nursery School’s health conscious initiative to go completely organic,” states Megan Neisser, store team leader for Whole Foods Market Darien. “We want to encourage parents and schools to feed their children with wholesome snacks that are free of pesticides, GMOs, or synthetic growth hormones. That is why we are offering every fourth order of theirs absolutely free.”

Five Mile River Nursery School focuses on developing the whole child, including intellectual, social-emotional, moral, creative, and physical growth. However, it is understood that optimal performance cannot be achieved without consuming a natural and clean diet.

“We are thrilled with the partnership,” states Mrs. Avery. “We are thankful to know that Whole Foods Market in Darien has the same health focused values and philosophies that parents and teachers do.”
