Mario the Magician: Magic and Music - Lefrak City Library

Inspired by Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin and Vaudeville-style theatre, get ready for a one-of-a-kind, inventive and lively performance with Mario the Magician. His talent, ingenuity, and flawless showmanship fuel this performance that is at once ridiculously silly and meticulously crafted. Audience members witness and assist Mario as he presents his high energy mix of magic tricks, inventions, and laughs, fostering creativity in a fun, accessible way. Mario is accompanied by his Sleight of Hand Band, a spirited jazz combo, featuring celebrated bassist Chris Donohue. Performance includes a Q&A with the artists.

The Dirty Sock Funtime Band is a wild, technicolor musical adventure where anything can happen! "Beloved by millions of families for their high-energy music videos on the NICK JR. CHANNEL'S JACK'S BIG MUSIC SHOW" (Thrifty Nifty Mommy), they can also be seen in CHUCK E. CHEESE venues across the country (and even in an episode of WORKAHOLICS in 2012). The Dirty Socks have become a favorite that are sure to "inspire dancing in the aisles ? by children and parents alike" (New York Family). Their 2010 album SOCK-A-DELIC was highly praised as "high-energy music for your kids that you will love too" (A Nation of Moms) and the DIRTY SOCK FUNTIME BAND SHOW DVD was called "a well-paced, charming and visually appealing program for all eyes ? young and old, cynical and innocent" (OutWithTheKids). 2013's release THE DIRTY SOCK COME CLEAN is eagerly awaited by fans around the world who have seen the band play on TV and live from New York City to Chicago to L.A. to US Navy bases in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The Dirty Socks will be touring their new album this Spring and Summer. You can also check them out at Kids Creative, their rock n roll peace education nonprofit for NYC kids.

A new children's program called Kids and the Classics, will be offered 30 minutes before each show. This programming consists of fun theatre games and an introduction to The Tempest.

Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor. Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin, surly Lord Macintosh and cantankerous Lord Dingwall. Merida's actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Witch for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it's too late. After consulting a witch for help, Merida accidentally transforms her mother into a bear and is forced to undo the spell herself before it is too late.

Blue Star Museums - Queens Botanical Garden

Queens Botanical Garden is pleased to participate in Blue Star Museums. This is a collaboration between National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 1,800 museums across America to offer free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2013. The complete list of participating museums is available at www.arts.gov/bluestarmuseums. Blue Star Military Families can enjoy the grounds and plant displays over the coming months. Check the website (www.queensbotanical.org) for special events, such as Summer Solstice on June 23rd and the evening concerts in our Music in the Garden series, to which they are warmly invited. Blue Star Museums is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 1,800 museums across America. The program runs from Memorial Day, May 27, 2013 through Labor Day, September 2, 2013. The free admission program is available to any bearer of a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), a DD Form 1173 ID card, or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card, which includes active duty U.S. military - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, as well as members of the National Guard and Reserve, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps - and up to five family members. Some special or limited-time museum exhibits may not be included in this free admission program. For questions on particular exhibits or museums, please contact the museum directly. To find out which museums are participating, visit www.arts.gov/bluestarmuseums. The site includes a list of participating museums and a map to help with visit planning. This is the latest NEA program to bring quality arts programs to the military, veterans, and their families. Other NEA programs for the military have included the NEA/Walter Reed Healing Arts Partnership; Great American Voices Military Base Tour; and Shakespeare in American Communities Military Base Tour.
