As part of this Folk Arts Series, Pelham Art Center rings in the Year of the Snake with a lively demonstration of a traditional "Lion Dance," performed by Kwan's Kung Fu Studio of Peekskill, and an art-making workshop. The dance begins at 2:30pm. Don't forget to wear red for good luck!

Opening of new exhibition, "St. Paul's & the Civil War," and a recognition of President's Day & Black History Month. The exhibition commemorates the 150th anniversary of the great national conflict, including a talk about the role of religion in the Civil War by Professor Robert T. Valentine of Lehman College. There will be talks and re-enactments commemorating President's Day and February as Black History Month, including appearances by Presidents Washington, Lincoln, and Franklin D. Roosevelt, and underground railroad icon, Harriet Tubman. Many activities are suitable for children.

Kids participate by telling their favorite jokes, sharing their biggest dreams, and discovering what it takes to make those dreams come true! 'Marshmallow' is a wonderfully entertaining method of inspiring children to face and overcome challenges - both inner and outer ones. This "edutainment" goes beyond teaching self-esteem or character education - it endeavors to give children tools that will enable them to begin to achieve their goals. Ages 5-12.
