Insurance Coverage for Autistic Children - KidAbilities, LLC

Attorney Jodi Bauer will discuss the change in New York State law that will require insurance companies in NY to cover services for children with autism. This is federal legislation that each state will interpret individually. Find out how parents can access the insurance coverage they will soon be entitled to for their children who are on the autism spectrum. Despite the therapies that EI or your school district provides, you may be able to supplement the services your child is receiving and have those services reimbursed through your insurance company. The law takes effect in January of 2013. The workshop is free but seating is limited, so please call KidAbilities, LLC at 914-347-5990 to reserve your spot.

A free art-themed socialization group for school-age adoptees meeting two times a month (three times in Nov.) through December 5. The group will focus on the expression of emotions through art, and creating an open forum for discussion about the participants' feelings about adoption. Groups will be co-led by FFTA employees Becca Leitman, MSW, adoption counselor, and Megan Ice, EdM. Adoption will be the common thread that holds the group together and will be addressed as it is brought up by the participants.

An 11 am ceremony commemorates Veterans Day, followed by tours recalling the stories of soldiers buried in the historic cemetery. At 1pm, Professor Harvey Strum of Sage College examines "A House Divided: New York and the War of 1812," helping to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. Sponsored by the Speakers in the Humanities Program, New York Council for the Humanities. At 2:30, enjoy a special jazz performance, dedicated to veterans, in historic St. Paul's Church by Sage, the acclaimed female jazz combo.
