Day Camp in Flushing Offers Music Program

Hillcrest Jewish Center Day Camp is offering a music program for campers in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Through the music program at Hillcrest Jewish Center Day Camp in Flushing, campers in kindergarten through eighth grade will be able to take music classes and participate in a camp concert to be held at the end of the summer.

The music director will play guitar while teaching students different songs to ultimately be performed at the camp concert at the end of the summer. During the concert students will play rhythm and percussion instruments.

Hillcrest music classes will be taught by Zachary Elyshevitz, an elementary music teacher in his fourth year at Hillcrest. Elyshevitz has a BFA in jazz performance and has played the drums in various bands.

“The campers really enjoyed the music portion of camp last summer so we wanted to officially start the program,” Elyshevitz says.

Hillcrest Jewish Center Day Camp is separated into three divisions: a lower camp, an upper camp, and counselors in training. Activities available to all campers include the Red Cross Swim Program, arts and crafts, gym, and more.

Campers at Hillcrest Jewish Center Day Camp also get to enjoy several field trips throughout the summer. The lower camp goes on trips on Tuesdays, the upper camp takes trips on Mondays and Thursdays, and tweens go on adventures Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The entire camp goes on a cookout every Wednesday.
