Movie-Making Summer Camp Comes to NY Metro Area

IncrediFlix, a movie-making summer day camp for kids, is moving to the New York metro area. Locations in Rockland, Westchester, Suffolk, Brooklyn, and Fairfield, CT, will host the film camp.

Calling all young Stephen Spielbergs and Martin Scorseses—spend the summer creating your own films at IncrediFlix.

IncrediFlix is a children’s film camp based in California. Tobin Felfe, co-founder of the camp, studied film in college and worked in Hollywood for a year.  He felt that the jobs were more business-driven rather than creative, so he co-founded IncrediFlix 10 years ago. Felfe is bringing the concept to the East Coast, and the camp is now expanding its programs across the greater New York area.

“The kids go through the whole movie-making process with us except for editing,” Felfe says. “So in the end, they are the kids’ movies because the kids are actually doing everything with our guidance.”

Most camps run for one week and meet Monday through Friday. Programs are offered 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm. Programs offered include Lego Flix in which kids build a set using Legos and create a movie using stop-motion animation, and Imagination Flix, in which kids create clay characters and film in front of a green screen. The kids do everything from creating props and costumes to directing, acting, and filming the movies. For example, in Animation Flix, kids illustrate the backgrounds and characters and do the voiceovers and filming as a group. Groups range from four to nine kids, depending on the camp. At the end of the camp, each child gets a copy of the movie they helped create.

The camps run from June 29-Sept. 4 for kids ages 7-13. The camp will have locations in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn; Dobbs Ferry, Briarcliff Manor, Scarsdale, White Plains, and Yorktown in Westchester County; Port Jefferson, Commack, Centereach, and Riverhead in Suffolk County; Suffern in Rockland County; and Weston, Wilton, Stamford, Easton, Redding, and Bethel in Fairfield County, CT.

Contact IncrediFlix for registration information for each location.
