Summer is the perfect time to take part in outdoor fairs and festivals. There are some great fairs in the New York area that happen in August and September that are great fun for the whole family.

New York Renaissance Faire
Saturdays, Sundays & Labor Day – Aug. 6 – Oct. 2
600 Route 17A, Tuxedo Park, NY

For its 39th season, the New York Renaissance Faire is ready for another year of festivities, fun, and frolicking! Visit the charming Tuxedo Park for stage shows, culinary adventures, music, comedians, and games and rides. The new Tudor Rose Stage will be a sight to see with acts that are sure to delight. Artists and merchants will offer their goods such as teas, hair tassels, leather armor, mushrooms, and much more. Taste foods from all over the globe as you spend an afternoon with the family.

Dutchess Fair
Aug. 23-28
6636 Route 9, Rhinebeck, NY

Close to a half a million visitors will attend the Dutchess Fair this year, so join the masses for a great event on over 144 acres of beautiful grassy land. There will be lots of vendors from all over the world who will sell treats such as sticky sweet kettle corn, savory crab cakes, iced cinnamon buns, and crispy corn dogs. Kids can enjoy arts & crafts, the museum, a tour of the cider mill, and so much more. Rain or shine, the fair is happening, so pay a visit to Dutchess County this summer!

Altamont Fair
Aug. 16-21
129 Grand St., Altamont, NY

Visit the Altamont fair this summer for a day of excitement and wonder. Check out the Giraffic Park Petting Zoo, the Pirates of the Caribbean High Wire Aerial Thrill Show, The Budweiser Clydesdales, and more interesting attractions. Kids will simply adore the pony show and hula hoop contest, as well as Zuse the Balloon Artist and Sherman’s Lumberjack Show. The fair is jam-packed with entertainment that will keep the family busy all day.

Columbia County Fair
Aug. 31 – Sept. 5
182 Hudson Ave., Chatham, NY

This year will be the 176th anniversary of the Columbia County Fair. Take a spin on the high-in-the-sky Ferris Wheel and see the arts & crafts of the various vendors. Scarecrow demonstrations will delight the kids as will the live animals such as horses, cattle, and chickens. Take in the quilt show and sunflower contest too. Over 300 exhibitions will keep your eyes peeled all day and friendly contests will bring out the competitor in you.

Delaware County Fair
Aug. 15-20
Delaware County Fair St., Walton, NY

The Delaware County Fair is celebrating its 130th year! This is the largest agricultural fair in the region. More than 80,000 folks come to the fair each year for fun and entertainment. Check out the rides, shows, and tasty treats. There will be tractor and farm equipment displays, livestock contests, and all-day live entertainment. If you’re going to be in the area or are interested in seeing Delaware County, be sure to stop by the fair for a memorable time with the kids.

Herkimer County Fair
Aug. 16 – 21
135 Cemetary St., Frankfort, NY

The Herkimer County Fair is chock full of events and day-long fun. Kids will love seeing the Junior Miss and Little Mister pageants, as well as the tractor and truck pulls. The demolition derby is sure to be a showstopper and the talent showcase will be full of local favorites. Be sure to stop by the horse show, the mini-motorcycle stunt show, and take in the fair’s musical acts. There will be plenty of food and drink to keep you energized for all the fair has to offer.

Long Island Fair
Sept. 24th, 25th & 30th and Oct. 1-2
1303 Round Swamp Rd., Old Bethpage, NY

Visit the Old Bethpage Village Restoration for this year’s Long Island Fair. Attractions include an alligator and reptile show, a lumberjack show, an exotic petting zoo, a mime, magic shows, puppet shows, juggling, balloon twisters, games, races, and vendors. For Long Islanders looking for some fall fun, a fair is the perfect way to spend a crisp day!

Schaghticoke Fair
Aug. 31 – Sept. 5
69 Stillwater Bridge Rd., Rtes. 67 & 40, Schaghticoke, NY

For 197 years, the Schaghticoke Fair has been delighting locals with loads of summer smiles. Taste the fresh veggies and fruit as well as delicious baked goods, see live animals, check out vendors with their antiques, and admire the homemade crafts. Kids will love the 4-H horse show, the “Hot Dog” pig races, yogurt and cheese samplings, sing-a-longs, karaoke competitions, live music, and flower shows. There will be thrilling rides for even more excitement. The days are filled with non-stop action, so make a full day of it with the family.

Steuben County Fair
Aug. 16-21
15 East Washington St. Bath, NY

Come to the 197th annual Steuben County Fair for a summer day of pure fun. There will be a carnival, a talent contest, horseshow pitching, a truck pull, a pie-eating contest, and much more. Take in music from live bands and enjoy the locals in a talent contest. Stop in the Pioneer Museum and the one-room schoolhouse for some history while you’re there. Food, fun, and family is what this fair is all about!
