Miss O’s Academy of Arts and ABC’s’ new facility allows children to have the full preschool experience with the comfort of feeling at home.

In August, Miss O’s Academy of Arts and ABC’s, a preschool that aims to provide a nurturing environment where children can learn and grow, relocated from Hempstead to West Hempstead and opened for the new school year in September. Owner and principal Olimpia Fernandez, known in her community as Miss O, says that the relocation occurred when the academy received the opportunity to move into its own, free-standing establishment.

“[The opportunity] gave us the freedom to tailor our program to better meet our mission and objective to educate young children,” she says.

During the academic school year, the preschool offers three part-time programs for children ages 2-5 divided by age, including toddler, nursery, and pre-K. The academic curriculum at Miss O’s Academy of Arts and ABC’s is combined with creative arts to teach children numbers, music, letters, shapes, months of the year, and basic sign language and Spanish. Children are also taught to be independent with basic tasks such as tying their own shoes and putting on coats.

“We build an age-appropriate curriculum brick by brick to give children the solid foundation they will need to enter kindergarten fully prepared educationally, socially, and emotionally,” Fernandez says. “Our school gives children a platform and the freedom to bring out their creative and intellectual abilities.”

Nursery programs are offered three or five days a week; pre-K programs are available three, four, or five days a week; and the toddler program is available in two and three days a week. Enrollment is ongoing while spots are available.
